A Fairytale, Now Come to Life

**This hung in my Aunt’s bathroom for years, and I found a copy of it when I moved in to the cottage where Mia was born. I framed it, and it’s been hanging in her room ever since.**

“ONCE UPON A TIME, in a land far, far away, a beautiful, independent, and self-assured young princess happened upon a frog as she sat contemplating ecological issues on the shore of an unpolluted pond in a verdant meadow near her castle.

A frog hopped into the princess’s lap and said, ‘Elegant lady, I was once a handsome prince until an evil witch cast a spell upon me. One kiss from you, however, and I will turn back into the dapper young prince that I am, and then, my sweet, we can marry, and I will move into yon castle with my mother, where you can prepare my meals, clean my clothes, bear my children and forever feel grateful and happy doing so.’

As the princess dined sumptuously on a repast of frogs’ legs seasoned in a white wine and garlic cream sauce, she chuckled, and said softly to herself…

I don’t fucking think so.”
